Team Spirit are The International 2026 champions. They defeated TEAM VISION 3-2 in a five-game grand final in Shanghai, securing the organization’s third Aegis of Champions. No Dota 2 club had reached that mark before this event.
How Spirit closed the tournament
Spirit’s final day began in the lower-bracket final against Team Yandex. They swept that series 2-0, with victories lasting roughly 37 and 34 minutes, then returned to face the upper-bracket winner in the best-of-five title match.
The grand final never produced a two-map lead. Spirit and VISION traded wins through the opening four games, leaving everything on the decider. Spirit’s first two victories took around 46 minutes each; VISION answered with maps lasting approximately 64 and 44 minutes. The fifth game became another long test and ended after about 64 minutes with Spirit taking the championship.
That route made the win more than a clean bracket favorite finishing the job. Spirit had to survive the lower side, play two series on the final day and then beat the team that reached the title match without needing an extra elimination series.
Final standings and prize money
Sixteen teams entered the fifteenth edition of The International on August 13. Eight reached the double-elimination playoff bracket, and the top finishers left Shanghai with the following shares of a crowd-funded pool that finished near $3.4 million:
- 1st — Team Spirit: about $1.43 million;
- 2nd — TEAM VISION: about $438,000;
- 3rd — Team Yandex: about $303,000;
- 4th — BoomBoys: about $202,000;
- 5th–6th — Nigma Galaxy and Team Liquid: about $168,000 each;
- 7th–8th — Iron Wing and Team Falcons: about $135,000 each.
The 3-2 score also gave the event the closest possible ending after four days of arena playoffs.
A third Aegis changes the record book
Team Spirit previously won The International in 2021 and 2023. The Shanghai title therefore makes them the first organization to win Dota 2’s world championship three times, moving clear of the clubs that remain on two.
Their record in TI grand finals is equally notable. Spirit won a five-game final in 2021, swept the 2023 championship series 3-0, and have now converted another 2-2 decider. Across three appearances in the final, the organization has yet to lose the match for the Aegis.
What this means for software users
An esports result is not a Dota 2 client update. The final itself does not change offsets, VAC, Overwatch or the compatibility of a script or overlay, so there is no technical reason to reinstall a build simply because Team Spirit won.
The event does create a clear point to watch for Valve’s next move. A post-TI gameplay or client patch could require scripts, overlays and information-reading features to be updated.
